My Little Recipe Tester

This past weekend I had the pleasure of testing a recipe for Luisa over at The Wednesday Chef for her upcoming book, a food memoir, tentatively titled My Berlin Kitchen. Testers are sworn to secrecy so I can't tell you what I made but suffice it to say, it was delicious and I can't wait for the book to be released.

What I can share with you is a little video of my personal recipe tester, Jack. Molly's video of her Jack inspired me. Her Jack is pretty darn cute but not quite as cute as my Jack. See for yourself.

You may already know Jack, our Boston Pug (he's a muttastic mix of Chinese Pug and Boston Terrier), as he shows up on the blog from time to time. Jack never leaves my side when I'm baking and he watches the oven even more closely than I do. He even positions himself right next to the oven door and patiently waits. Unless I'm baking with chocolate, he's always rewarded with a piece of cookie or a nibble of cake.  In fact, he always gets the first taste, hence my deeming him my recipe tester.

Who doesn't love puppy snores? (Lord knows the interweb needs more doggie videos.)

You're welcome ;-)

  3. awwww, how adorable! Dinger does the same thing, standing at the oven, then he sticks his head in when I open it! Well....when I used to still use the oven...

  4. I love this! My dogs don't get to test my recipes because they're a bit on the chubby side and the vet has said no treats. Even with the doctors orders, my dad still gives them plenty of "tests" of his dinner at dinnertime :P Oh well haha

I love it when dogs start having dreams and start moving their legs and barking in their sleep. Too cute!

  5. Jack doesn't do much in this video, just like our English bulldog, Clarence. He loves just sitting around, snoring and, unfortunately, farting. I don't feed him cake but he adores cheese, rice, any fish and tomatoes.

  6. Puppy snores are awesome! My kitties are pretty cute when they snore, but they don't wait by the oven or taste anything I bake.

  8. How very cute! :) I would love to have a dog. Our cat is so not interested when I am in the kitchen unless she wants to be fed. Luisa's book sounds really good!

  12. Shelley, your Jack is adorable! Is that a sheepskin rug he is sleeping on? Our dog Felix has one just like it. She snores like an old man every night. :-)

  13. @karen It is a sheepskin rug. Jack loves it and burrows into it like a mole. Thank goodness it's washable!
